When homeowners in Palos Verdes first reached out to Rosewood Landscape, their backyard was far from inviting. What they had was a dusty, weed-ridden yard — what they wanted was a backyard retreat that could host friends, family, and the entire neighborhood block.

The Vision
The homeowners asked for a pool that could handle kids’ pool parties, adult gatherings, and still feel like a resort. Their dream list included:
- A large swimming pool deep enough for diving.
- An elevated spa that could comfortably seat 10 adults.
- A design that felt lush, private, and tropical.
The Build
Our in-house team began by carving out space for a full-scale pool with plenty of capacity for both swimming and play. To make it visually striking, we designed an elevated wall with three waterfalls, lined with shimmering waterline tile, and finished the pool in a sky-blue plaster that gives the water a vibrant glow.
Surrounding the pool, we poured a concrete pathway perimeter for ease of movement, blending functionality with clean design.
To address privacy and noise, we installed a tall bamboo wall, which doubles as a lush backdrop while adding a vibrant green accent. On the opposite side of the yard, three large palms were planted to give the pool a dramatic, oasis-like feel. The rest of the perimeter was lined with smaller palms and tropical plants, creating a continuous resort-style aesthetic.
For ground cover, we used a cushioned grass variety planted in clusters, designed to fill in and create a soft, walkable lawn. The pool equipment was neatly enclosed in a custom cedar wood housing, ensuring functionality without compromising beauty. Finally, pea gravel walking paths tied the entire design together, adding both texture and utility.
The Results
The result was nothing short of a transformation. What was once an empty, neglected yard is now a luxury backyard retreat — complete with a pool large enough to entertain dozens of guests, a spa that serves as a gathering hub for adults, and landscaping that transports visitors to a tropical escape.
